# search_history

Search past AI conversations from any computer, only in your own history.

`search_history` searches your earlier Claude Code and Codex sessions that the agent uploaded to MMW with your consent. A new session, including one on another or a new computer, finds what you discussed and decided.

The agent calls it by itself when you refer to earlier work: "how did we settle the backups", "let's continue from there", "what did we say about staging yesterday".

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `query` | string | — | Words to find. Word forms are matched loosely: "deploying" finds "deployment". |
| `limit` | number | 5 | How many snippets to return, 1 to 20. |

## What it returns

A list of short snippets: program (`claude-code` or `codex`), session id, who wrote it (`user` or `assistant`), date, time and the snippet itself with matched words marked «like this».

Only the conversation between the person and the assistant is searched. Tool calls and their output are not.

## Who sees what

- Personal account: all your uploaded history from all your computers.
- Organization: only your own sessions and those of colleagues whose knowledge was handed over to you when they left. Nobody sees other colleagues' sessions, including the admin.

Only uploaded history is searched. History is uploaded after consent (`mmw-agent consent` or the [one-command install](/start/quickstart/)); how much is kept depends on the plan: see [Session history](/agent/session-history/#quota-per-plan).

Annotations: `readOnlyHint: true`, `idempotentHint: true`.
